Common Eye Conditions

Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)

Strabismus, or crossed eyes, is a physical disorder that causes the eyes to drift and focus in any direction.

As children are growing and learning to control and focus their eye muscles, it’s common for their eyes to drift. However, this behavior should disappear during the first couple of years, and if it does not, the child should be taken to an optometrist.

The earlier that crossed eyes are diagnosed, the better the chance of the problem being fully corrected. There are various strabismus treatments available, the most common being the use of a steroid that relaxes the eye muscles.

The skilled staff here at iSmile Optometry have many years of experience diagnosing and correcting strabismus. Call us toll-free at 905-457-4700 to meet with an optometrist in Brampton today!
